Summary

In this hour you looked at creating file shares and many of the parameters that control how file shares are made available to clients. You also looked at how files are created and accessed on those file shares, as well as how to perform more advanced functions with file shares.

Along the way, you looked in some detail at the steps Samba uses to determine whether shares exist, whether a particular client can access a requested share, and whether that client can read or write files in the requested share. With this information you are now in a position to debug many problems with the configuration of Samba.

In the next hour you will look at how to create printer shares, how to configure Samba to support automatic installation of printer drivers under Windows 9x, and how to print from UNIX systems to Windows clients that have printers connected to them.
