Gerald Carter is a network manager currently employed by the College of Engineering at Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama, where he works on PC clients and Solaris servers. He has been managing Samba servers since 1995 and is an active member of the Samba Team, a group of people who develop, test, and document Samba.
Jerry began his journey into computers in 1983 with a Commodore 64 and a copy of Zork I: The Great Underground Empire. In 1997, he received his master's degree in computer science from Auburn University where he is pursuing a doctorate, also in computer science.
Currently, he is an active Usenix member, particularly involved in the Large Scale Systems Installation of Windows NT (LISA-NT) conference, and also writes a monthly column on integrating Linux and Windows NT for the Web-based magazine LinuxWorld. His hobbies include running, hiking, and playing music. Jerry presently resides near Lake Martin, in Dadeville, Alabama, with his wife, Kristi. Richard Sharpe is also a member of the Samba Team. Richard is a senior consultant at NS Computer Software and Services, a consulting firm in South Australia. He teaches TCP/IP and network security courses and has written several papers and articles on Samba-related topics.
