I always pondered over the acknowledgements in a book. I now understand after having written my own. The time taken to author chapters in this book seems now to be a blur. I know most of all that my Heavenly Father helped me do this. I hope that He is proud. He also provided a wonderful, caring, and supportive wife who helped to keep the coffee warm and the smiles continual. Thank you, Kristi, for more than I can put into words. Thanks also need to be said to Gretchen Ganser and Hugh Vandivier at Sams who were always an encouragement.
I hope everyone enjoys reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it. Finally, thanks to all the people on the Samba Team with whom I have become friends. Samba would not be without them. Thanks everyone for all your efforts.
Richard Sharpe
In helping to write this book on Samba, I have discovered how much work everyone has to put in to ensure a successful outcome. I would like to thank my development editor, Hugh Vandivier, and technical editor, Dylan Northrup, for their help in ensuring that my chapters covered the necessary material accurately and completely. The suggestions and comments they made were a great help and their patience was wonderful.
I would also like to thank my acquisitions editor, Gretchen Ganser, for being so patient and helpful to me, especially because we were working on almost opposite sides of the world, and certainly opposite extremes of weather. Also, my thanks goes to everyone at Sams who was involved in the production of this book. Without them, the book would not exist.
Of course, a book on Samba would not be possible without Andrew Tridgell, who started it all, and the help and assistance of all my fellow Samba Team members, so my thanks goes out to them as well. I must also thank Dan Shearer for getting me started with Samba and suggesting I help to maintain it.
Finally, I must offer an enormous thank you to Natalie, Nicole, and Carole for helping me complete my contribution, for understanding the long hours involved, and for supporting my desire to get it all done. I could not have done it without them.
